Essentially
French
A distinctly Anglo-French
experience combining breathtaking harbour
views with unique history, topography, local arts and the fruits of the volcanic soils of Banks Peninsula.
In 1840 a group
of French settlers emigrated to Akaroa
just as the territory was claimed by
the British. Those early colonists have
left their distinctive mark.
Add Maori and British influences to
the mix and you have a town like no
other. This quaint harbour township
(Akaroa means 'long harbour') offers
visitors an abundance of activities.
Swim with the dolphins or enjoy a harbour
cruise with opportunity to spy blue penguins
and New Zealand fur seals. You can also
visit a local wine producer, an olive grove or a specialty
cheese maker - or simply enjoy the fruits
of their labour at one of Akaroa's excellent
seaside restaurants and cafes. A range of local artisans, galleries and shops make this an refreshing and unique place to spend a day.
Local cruises and other
activities you may wish to enjoy during
your visit can be included in your own personalised Akaroa experience. |

West
Coast - the World's Other Special Place
Rainforests,
Sculptured Rocks and Formidable Peaks.
Recognised world
wide for it's glorious scenic wonders,
the West Coast of the South Island is
the perfect place to immerse yourself
in towering rainforests, wild coastline and the wonder of nature.
Visit the unusual Pancake Rocks on the
Punakaiki Coast, named for their distinctive
limestone form. Watch jets of seawater
propel high into the air from the naturally
formed blowholes. Take a leisurely
stroll through fern-filled native forest and
view abandoned settlements that once
housed the miners who thrived here.
The TranzAlpine traverse of the Southern
Alps between Christchurch and Greymouth
is one of the world's great rail journeys, offering a spectacular variety
of scenery. The train travels through
a labyrinth of gorges and hills, crossing
over viaducts and traveling through
tunnels to arrive in Arthur's Pass or
Greymouth. If you choose to add this
option to your tour, you will be met
by us at the Arthur's Pass or Greymouth
train station to continue your tour.
This is best as an overnight or multi-day tour but can be offered as single-day tour from Christchurch (this option would exclude a visit to Punakaiki). |

of Tradition
Central Christchurch
- Gothic Architecture, Punting and Glorious
Gardens.
For those with
only a few hours to spare we suggest
a guided tour of central Christchurch.
At the heart of Christchurch is the
Cathedral, the focal point of 'the Square'.
Climb the spiral stair case to a viewing
platform that gives great views of the
city and surrounding landscape.
For a touch of romance a punt down the
Avon River is a leisurely way to enjoy
the scenery while a boatman tells the tales of the area. Stroll through the Arts Centre,
a mecca for local artists and craftspeople, housed in impressive stone
Gothic buildings of the former University.
Take in the region's unique history at the
Canterbury Museum located in the extensive
grounds of the Christchurch Botanic
Gardens, or visit the impressive Christchurch Art Gallery. Of course a visit to the Garden City wouldn't be complete without the chance to stroll through a renowned local garden - there are plenty to choose from, garden lovers won't be disappointed.
We can also arrange an Antarctic experience
at the International Antarctic Centre
or a visit to Air Force World, Christchurch
Gondola or
any other point of interest. Your driver/guide will
provide an interesting and informative
commentary along the way. This is a
half day tour that will be tailored to suit and cover the city's highlights and landmarks - those with more time
available might like to consider the "Images of Tradition and Scenic
Beauty" option. |

villages, along with the bustle of port
activity.
The Port Hills offers an array of walks
